The World Heritage Site Upper Middle Rhine Valley is a mystical and romantic place, which seems to stem from another era. Steep vineyards, rocks like sculptures, sleepy villages, romantic hiking tracks and the numerous castles and palaces are at the core of the attraction of this unique landscape. Its status as World Heritage Site protects it from too much human intervention and preserves its beauty for the generations to come.
Our hometown of Oberwesel is located among enchanted castles and stately palaces. Known as the city of towers and surrounded by its wholly intact city wall, the townscape at the foot of the venerable Schönburg fits most harmoniously into this wild and romantic landscape.
The castles and palaces are as important for the region as the cultural and culinary diversity like the Rhine Romanticism and the wine culture. In the following, you will find a list of the most pre-eminent castles and palaces which we highly recommend to visit:
Each castle and each palace of the Middle Rhine area tell another story, turned into stone. If only those stones could talk...
Visit the castles and palaces of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley and immerse yourself in the true spirit of Rhine Romanticism and the special atmosphere of our wonderful home region!
